Time to ReMIND
I’m looking forward to the Bob Woodruff Foundation’s Stand Up for Heroes benefit on Wednesday. The sold-out event, at New York City’s Town Hall, will be a lot of fun—hosted by Brian Williams, with guests such as Stephen Colbert, Louis C.K. and Bruce Springsteen—but for me it’s much more than a party. (I got even more pumped up tonight when I was sitting on the sofa and a former staff member who does pro bono PR support for the Woodruffs pinged me. She said, “Turn on CNN fast! Bob and Lee and Tweet and our night are about to come on.” Every time I think about Tweet to ReMIND, I smile. A funny little initiative that could. More about that in a minute.)
My connection to BWF is deep and personal. I first got involved with the foundation, especially its ReMIND.org movement, which helps educate the public about the needs of service members returning from war with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, after my own brain surgery. Just months after my tumor was successfully removed at Massachusetts General Hospital, I went with JWT chairman and CEO Bob Jeffrey, who was already on the BWF board, to Washington, D.C., to a special evening in which the Marines were celebrating Bob Woodruff.
